Warm invitation

Warm Invitation

to everyone wishing to be in silence for some days, developing mindfulness on body and mind through simple structured exercises, to see the reality the way it is and learn how to transfer it into the daily life.

The Vipassana Meditation Center Eilat  offers Meditation Courses for Beginners as well as for experienced Meditators.

Courses can be started individually depending on availability.

Please contact us for registration.

Additionally, twice a week we open our doors to anyone interested, offering 2-3 hour introductory sessions to the Vipassana technique, with time for questions and answers.

This method of Vipassana was developed by the late Most Venerable Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo, one of Thailand’s most highly revered meditation masters, who studied with Mahasi Sayadaw and many other great meditation masters of Thailand and Myanmar.

Ajahn Tong

 What is Vipassana?

Vipassana is a Pali word that means: “seeing clearly, seeing specially, seeing through, seeing into – seeing reality as it truly is.”
Most of the time in our lives we don’t see reality clearly because it is blurred by worries, anger, restlessness, fear, or doubt.
Through the practice of Vipassana, we can reduce these hindrances.

Vipassana also means “inner knowing, inner vision, intuitive wisdom, intuitive knowledge.”
It is often translated as Insight.

Vipassana is attained by practicing the Four Satipatthana, the Four Foundations of Mindfulness:

  1. Mindfulness of the body

  2. Mindfulness of feelings

  3. Mindfulness of the mind

  4. Mindfulness of mind-objects

We learn this technique through walking and sitting meditation.
All arising phenomena are noted mentally.

To get the best results from the course, we reduce three things that disturb the practice:

  1. Talking
We practice noble silence – no socializing.

  2. Sleeping
We sleep 6 hours (starting the day at 4 am and going to bed at 10 pm).

  3. Eating
There are two vegetarian meals a day – breakfast and lunch.
In the evening we serve a dairy/soy product.
Hot and cold drinks are available throughout the whole day.

During the course, everyone practices individually and reports once a day to the teacher.
Throughout the entire stay, one practices according to the eight Buddhist training rules of moral conduct, which are the foundation for developing the mind:

  1. To refrain from killing any living being

  2. To refrain from taking what is not given – to refrain from stealing

  3. To refrain from any kind of sexual or romantic activity

  4. To refrain from lying or harsh speech

  5. To refrain from consuming any intoxicants (alcohol/drugs)

  6. To refrain from eating after 12 noon

  7. To refrain from sensual entertainment (dancing, singing, music) and bodily decoration (jewelry, perfume, cosmetics)

  8. To refrain from the use of luxurious beds and seats

Course Fee — Dana

In accordance with Buddhist tradition, the Center operates on Dana –Donation.

Giving freely from the heart.
Our wish is that the teaching remain accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means.

“Dana” is gift and generosity.
It embraces the support of those who unselfishly and openly
give of their time and knowledge to teach the path of
silence, insight and compassion.
Dana is a way of thanksgiving:
a spontaneous grateful offering which stems from the appreciation
of that which was received.
Such generositiy cannot be forced.
It simply opens when the tree of mindfulness
blossoms and finally bears fruit.
